A Journey to Remember

In June of 2009 I began a journey that has now come to completion. In the months prior to that, a lot of prayer and searching of myself transpired that led me to the decision to quit my job and go back to school to fulfill another lifelong dream. Have you ever been in a place in your life where you were just comfortable and it was time to make a move? Well, this is where I found myself so when the opportunity presented itself I moved. I applied to the Union University Accelerated Bachelor of Science Nursing program. This program took two years of nursing and placed it into ONE. I had a few classes I had to take in order to start in January so in June of 2009 I began those classes. In August I received the letter that stated I had be accepted into the program. I was absolutely thrilled. Little did I know I was about to endure one of the hardest years of my life. I finished my classes in December and January 4, 2010 I started the program! This was a full time program Monday – Friday. Needless to say there were a few dates I was going to have to miss. The first, and most difficult, one was the cruise. Wow… there are no words to describe what it was like for me to leave my family in Florida to fly home. Thanks Jonathan for the ride home! That week was very tough for me. I remember finding this verse that I continued to hold on to throughout the program, “For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised” Hebrews 10:36 NASB. I relied often on this verse to remind me to keep on even when it seemed impossible. There were several times I wanted to throw in the towel so to speak but I kept on. I had the opportunity to confide in one of my good friends, Pastor Mike and his wife Diana. He told me that some times not everyone understands the things we choose and what we choose might not be easy to accomplish, but to persevere because in the end it would be worth it. I can now honestly say he was right. I could not have done this without the prayer and support that you all have given over the past year and a half. I graduated on December 11, 2010. I took my boards on January 12, 2011. I have passed my boards and look forward to starting work on March 21 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. I will be working on the orthopedic floor. God Is Good! There are a few people I would personally like to thank for standing by me during this time. Shawn, I could have never done this without you. You were constantly encouraging me to keep pressing on and you were always there! Logan and Kaela you never complained and you helped out here at home so much! Lastly to my Mom and Dad, Pat and Gerald, you were always there when I needed you. Thanks for always praying and supporting me 100%! I love you! I would like to share some pictures of my time in the program. Hope you enjoy them. If there is ever anything I can do for you, do not hesitate to write… I’m only a click away 🙂

  1. This is so AWESOME!! Congratulations! That had to be tough. This is really inspirational to a guy like me who toys around with the idea of going back to school all the time. You ROCK!

  2. I am so proud of you, LeeAnn. My daughter did the same thing as a single mother so I know how difficult it is. So many late nights studying and giving up time with the family. You have a great personality to be a good nurse. You are a caring person and will be a great nurse as you are a great example of a Christian.

  3. LeeAnn,
You are amazing! I’m so proud of you. I know Ben was when you first talked about it. As you know it’s hard to impress him but you did. Matter of fact the first year we went to Florida he stopped you outside of the bus and complimented you on your singing. I don’t know if you remember it or not. I do vividly because as I said he was hard to impress and your singing also impressed him. he felt like you hid in the corner and didn’t get much recognition & he wanted you to know how good you really were. I took notice when he was impressed because I knew it would be something good. And yes you ROCK!!
Love you hope to see you in Alma,
    pam

    1. Pam, I do remember that. I appreciate that so much. I miss big daddy. I am excited to see you and the rest of the family in Alma. Love you little momma!

  4. Congrads. I myself am working on going back to school, to be a RN. I am going to a Galen College of Nursing in Louisville, KY. I will get an associate RN there, but I will go to University of Lousiville and get my Masters, I will work 2 yrs and go back to school and get my Nurse Pratitioner. And beng a full time mom at the same time, with the help of no husband anymore. But I can and will do it. I have the support of my family and friends, and I fell like this is what God wants me to do. I no longer have the Army making decision for me and my family.
We are looking forward to Sunday, I haven’t seen yall preform since day one. I am glad to be able to finally get all of the cd’s :).

  5. Leann,
We are really proud of you for staying with such a hard program! It seems like just a few weeks ago that Logan and Kaela were staying with Cecil and Nadine and coming to my SS class. It has been over 3 years! Jimmy has been retired from Parkview and full-time pastorate since 2007.I surely have enjoyed your family and all of the group singing. Keep up the good work!
    Love,
    Bro. Jimmy & Joann

  10. Congratulations! I am so proud of you and for you! What an accomplishment and testimony that you relied on the Lord to see you thru this journey in your life as well. Like everything else, we could not do it without HIM! He will use it in so many ways and you will continue to bless others and be blessed! It took a lot of commitment and dedication on your part, and you have to feel the happiness because you persevered! I am always uplifted by your ministries and this will be yet another way you will minister and show the love of Jesus to others.
